The depiction of a human
figure has challenged and fascinated artists over the course of many
generations. Throughout the centuries, many artists have tried to find
their own solution to the dilemma of immortalizing a human soul on canvas
and this task is neither easy, nor simple, since the likeness of the sitter
is just a marginal part of a successfully-executed figure painting. Even
the possession of exquisite technical skills by the artist does not
guarantee achievement – success is more likely when there is the right
combination of all these factors with a fundamental reliance on the unique
sensitivities of the painter. And so, figure painting will always remain an
open field due to the infinite possibilities of artistic interpretations and
approaches. |
